Worton Creek to Tolchester, cont....
On the third try I was out of the piling.. I should not have been trying to navigate between shoaling etc…ran aground… zigzagged rudder off and back to channel, Is missing two buoys red..once beyond danger I set out to right the jumbled lines and and jib sail…I did a sort of grub worm crawl, to the bow, freed the foul up..and squirmed back…..trim… and set course
Onto the main sail… multiple foul ups.. till pilot not working to stay the course. Rush back to cockpit/tiller.. definitely going for Tolchester , about 12 nm . Sails all up, turn off the motor, 4.5 knots against the current, I need to double check… northwest winds heading south southwest. Begin hypothermia in extremities. Heading into Tolchester marina, only with stern like.., being pushed in now by wind and tide.. kill engine, dive head first to Dock …entire boat covered with sheeted ice, lines sheets frozen… immediately go to cabin start boiling water… fingers on fire. I did frozen solo sailing in 15/30 knots,, higher gusts. This moments when all the details have been checked , on course, sails trimmed just to that sweet spot, sun on the face , that perfect song , then boom high winds gust , we are off course, and boom, it’s freezing , I can barely operate the tiller with my hands no feeling. Docked under sail… head first:))
Right away dock chores… bumpers, adjust dock lines, power check, new heat doesn’t work, original ones perfect. Dethaw… and reward, stow tiller pilot, snacks of cherie’s and red wine:))
Take down sails , treacherous, tie secure jib , right the foul up and caught on cleet , secure down main… close cabin, heat pizza in cast iron:))
Sauté greebreans, scallion, Sambal, and pastas, and add tuna, delightful ginger beer.. music, good night
